I actually really like what you have with the monochromatic buildings and the colorful letters. To me, the composition could be really interesting, especially considering the way you've Incorporated the typography.
Kind of tricky to do something for "Mr. Brightside," just because it was such a mega-huge hit and there are so many different ideas or interpretations of it, though the smiley-face one is kind of funny.
I like the other ideas, but I'm wondering if the idea of "sun shy" shouldn't be a little bit the opposite? Maybe a darker palette with a glimpse of sunny color?
