I haven't been able to pick one song... So I have 3.
BRACKETS - Money falling from the sky with hands grabbing at it.
SECURITY - Person wearing a smile mask, but teeth spell out security.
ZOMBIES - Zombie hands, a dude, and the type, just in different layouts.
I'm a really big fan of the elongated thumbnail you have for Brackets. The unique proportions which are further emphasized by the verticality of the reaching hands is really neat. Just a thought, maybe experiment with the proportion of how much space the hands take up, since right now it's split pretty much right in half. Also maybe also see what it would like if some or one of the hands reached significantly further than the others to draw the eye further up. I also like your ideas for Zombies, especially the bottom right thumbnail for it because it's simple, but an eye-catching angle.
ReplyDeleteYou do like stuff with some edgy lyrics! :)
ReplyDeleteBut what's interesting is that these songs all have a layer of irony, or at least a conceptual angle that gets you thinking. Things like:
We're coming out to get you
We're all so glad we met you
We're eating you for profit
There is no way to stop it
and
Money, weed, women, fast foreign cars
Mansions on the waterfront, steak and caviar
Everything I want, far from what I need
Security, security
I'm about to be really...
Why don't I feel happy?
and
I'll write a check to the IRS, my pockets get slim
Do I even have a say 'bout where it's goin'?
So, with the artwork I would try to suggest, if possible, what the deeper subtext of the song may be about (whichever one you choose). For example, maybe with "Brackets" those hands could be different skin colors, different ages, maybe one is in suit sleeves, one in handcuffs, etc. Maybe one hand is trying to grab bills out of another hand. Maybe the hands are instead reaching out from the sides, skimming off the bills as they fall down, and the last hand (on the bottom) can only get the scraps.
Or maybe with "Security" you can portray some of those items mentioned that people seek after, but then somehow visually suggest the unsatisfying nature of them. Exactly how you do that might depend on which visual devices you choose. The smiling mask might work, but I feel like it needs some more thumbnails to refine the idea.
