Okay, folks, I'm doing an image for the song "Excavate" by Macklemore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyO9fCtIwL8 A really big theme here is focusing on what's really important like family and community so I've tried to reflect that in my thumbnails. I hope it all reads okay.
There are some good ideas here, and really introspective lyrics to work with.
ReplyDeleteI had this vision of my death
Surrounded by people I love and respect
And a baby blue Cadillac hearse
Pulling me 'round the block that I rep
The greatest fear that I've ever kept is dying with regrets
Like was I just alive for success
Or did I leave a better life for the rest?
My greatest achievement isn't the dollars
My greatest achievement isn't the followers
My greatest achievement isn't the accolades
My greatest achievement is my daughter
Waking up in the morning, being a father
Watching the light kiss her eyelids
Hearing her sing along to Chance
And being like, yeah, that's my kid
I think the close-cropped one in the lower middle might work because it looks like you may be cropping out the father's eyes and showing the little girl sort of buried in his chest. I like the idea of playing with the tattoos on his arms, but I'm not sure the idea would read if you tried to make them look like quilt stitching. Might work better to blend them out to an abstract pattern that morphs into a patchwork quilt, like an M.C. Escher design. This would take some time to figure out, and it could easily turn out to be a mess, so I would do some sketchbook studies before I attempted it. Plus, you'll probably need models to do it right.
Here's a link to some close-ups of the ink on his left arm for reference: http://melbournetattoocompany.com/blog/2016/8/6/macklemore
If you don't think that would work, maybe the "baby blue Cadillac hearse" could be a good device to work with, though slightly morbid. :)
